Thank you to everyone who has come out to the show and contributed to the community that's built up around this play and our company, the New Street Collective!! NYtheatre.com calls us the show that "any theatre or poetry lover should rush to see!" The full review is here! The New Street Collective is currently working on a new play about education reform, indidviduality, and conformity! We are writing, creating, and performing in cooperation with Project Eye to Eye, a nonprofit organization dedicated to learning disability advocacy and self-empowerment. Our first test run staged readings and performances will be done in the summer of 2009.
 About The Play New Street Poets confronts the loss of urban culture to "urban renewal". When the forces of gentrification threaten to redevelop Café Home, center of a vibrant artistic neighborhood, six dynamic poets must struggle to keep their community alive. This exciting spoken word drama confronts the human cost of progress in the 21st century. New Street Poets has been performed by a rotating cast of poets and actors in several venues throughout the tri-state area, including The Crossroads Theatre, The Aetna Theatre, The Riverside Church Theatre, and Brown University. |
